How a common name is cleared

Many people share a name, so a name alone never counts as a match. This page checks a common name against every list ClearRoster holds right now and shows how many of its list entries an NPI or a date of birth settles.

  2. Add the person's NPI: 0 entries carry an NPI

    When the NPI you hold for your person differs from the entry's, that entry is ruled out and the record says why. When it is the same NPI, it is a match to act on.

  3. Add the date of birth: 7 more entries carry one

    A different date of birth rules the entry out the same way. ClearRoster keeps a date of birth only as a fingerprint, never as the date itself.

  4. 10 entries are left to look at by hand

    These entries carry neither an NPI nor a date of birth. Compare the city, state and specialty with what you hold, using the publisher's own search linked from each entry. You mark each one as a different person or a match, and the monthly record shows who decided and when; next month the same entry is not asked about again unless the list changes it.

With an NPI and a date of birth on file for James Smith, none of these 17 entries is confirmed, and 10 need a look by hand. Add NPIs and dates of birth to your roster and most close names settle themselves each month.
